Raed El Khazen has led diverse ensembles, showcasing his original compositions over the last two decades that reflect an array of stylistic influences gathered from his life in both New York and his native Beirut.
He performed at renowned jazz events like Beirut International Jazz Week, Amman Jazz Festival, and Beirut & Beyond International Festival, as well as multiple venues across Beirut and New York, including Nublu, The Stone, and Lizard Lounge.
Influenced by the rich musical heritage of Arabic sound and a deep appreciation for African-American styles, his music offers listeners an emotional sonic experience that unites distinct worlds through the universal language of sound.
Raed's musical journey began when he picked up the guitar and left college at 19 in post-war Beirut. He later earned a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he explored diverse traditions and styles.
Relocating to New York, he collaborated with various musicians for a decade before returning to Beirut to produce emerging talents and contribute to some of the most innovative sounds in the independent music scene in the region. With a fascination for film music, he composed for screened media and continued performing alongside notable artists across three continents.
Over 30 years, Raed's versatile expertise has made him a unique guitarist, composer, and music producer, and a model for innovation in today's music industry.
